South Carolina Life and Health Insurance License Course and Exam Prep

The combined exam has a 150-minute time limit and covers three areas: life insurance, accident and health insurance, and South Carolina law. A handful of questions are unscored pretest items that don’t count toward your result. Here’s what each area covers:

• Life insurance: policy types, riders and provisions, annuities, underwriting, and retirement plans
• Accident and health: disability income, medical expense plans, Medicare supplement, long-term care, group coverage, and Social Security
• South Carolina law: rules that apply to every line, like licensing and unfair trade practices such as rebating and misrepresentation, plus rules specific to life and health, like replacement and the state’s Medicare supplement and long-term care regulations

With the Life and Accident & Health or Sickness lines of authority, you can sell:

• Life insurance: term, whole, and universal life
• Annuities: fixed and indexed annuities
• Health insurance: individual and group medical, dental, and vision plans
• Income protection: disability income and accidental death coverage
• Senior products: Medicare supplement and long term care insurance

Some products need an extra step first. Long term care requires 8 hours of product training before you sell it, annuities require annuity training, and variable products also require FINRA registration plus South Carolina's Variable Life and Variable Annuity line.

You have two options. Take the combined Life, Accident and Health exam (140 questions, 150 minutes), or take the Life exam and the Accident and Health exam separately (120 minutes each).
