Your Illinois insurance license expires on the last day of your birth month every two years. The exact year depends on when you were originally licensed. You can confirm your specific expiration date through the SBS portalIndex.html Solar or by contacting the Illinois Department of InsuranceIdoi.illinois.gov. Plan to complete your CE well in advance; the IDOI does not grant extensions for late completion, and falling behind on your renewal timeline can result in steep penalties.

Your hours need to be posted to the SBS portal at least 10 business days before your renewal date. A few things to know:

• Your provider has up to 10 days to report completions after you finish
• A certificate of completion is not the same as state-posted credit
• Finishing the week of your deadline is cutting it too close

It has to be a live, IDOI-approved 3-hour ethics course either in a classroom or via live webinar. Self-paced online ethics isn't accepted. When choosing a provider, look for:

You can enroll in just the 3-hour live ethics webinarIllinois Ethics Ce Webinar Continuing Education without buying a full package. This is the right option if:

• You've already completed 21 hours of self-study through another provider
• You need to catch up on ethics specifically before your renewal date
• You're a multi-state agent who completed self-study elsewhere but still needs live ethics for Illinois

Upon enrollment, you will receive the following:

The Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) requires a reporting fee for all CE courses (currently $1.50 per credit hour). This fee is added to your course tuition and collected upon enrollment.

State fees are subject to change without notice. We recommend completing your courses promptly to minimize the risk of a fee increase during your enrollment.

We report the completed credit hours to IDOI on your behalf. Our team reports students’ earned credits every business day (M-F). You will also receive a certificate of completion for your records upon completing your course(s).

Your license goes inactive. Consequences:

• You can't legally sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance in Illinois
• Carriers can drop your appointments while you're lapsed
• Reinstating within a year means paying the renewal fee plus a late penalty
• Past a year, you may need to redo pre-licensing and retake the state exam
