How to Get Your Property & Casualty License

1. Enroll in Your Course

Ohio requires 20 hours of state-approved pre-licensing education for each major line of authority (Life, Accident & Health, Property, or Casualty). A prep course gives you the clarity and confidence to pass your exam on the first try.

2. Schedule and Pass the State Exam

Register for the Ohio insurance licensing exam through PSI. Bring proper identification and your Certificate of Completion. You must earn a passing score to move forward with licensing.

3. Complete Your Background Check

Ohio requires a background check (fingerprinting) completed through an approved provider. Your results are sent directly to the Ohio Department of Insurance for review.

4. Apply for Your License

Submit your application through NIPR. Pay the required fees and confirm that your exam results and background check have been received by the state.

5. Start Your Insurance Career

Once approved, you’ll receive your license from the Ohio Department of Insurance and can officially begin selling insurance in Ohio.
