Fingerprinting Costs

The current processing fee for Tennessee insurance producer fingerprinting is approximately $37-42. This fee covers:

• Electronic fingerprint capture
• TBI background check processing
• FBI background check processing
• Transmission of results to the Tennessee DCI

Payment is made directly to IdentoGO during registration (credit/debit card accepted) or at the time of your appointment.

The Fingerprint Policy and Acknowledgement Form

In addition to fingerprinting, you must submit a signed Fingerprint Policy and Acknowledgement Form. This form is separate from the IdentoGO appointment and must be submitted to the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance.

Your license application cannot be approved without this signed form on file.

Timing Your Fingerprinting

You can complete fingerprinting before or after passing your exam. Strategic timing helps streamline your overall licensing process:

Option 1: Before the exam

Complete fingerprinting while studying. By the time you pass, your background check may already be processed, eliminating one wait period.

Option 2: Same day as exam

Schedule your fingerprint appointment for the same day as your exam (before or after). This consolidates your trips and keeps momentum.

Option 3: Day after exam

If you pass, immediately schedule fingerprinting for the next available appointment. This minimizes delay between exam and application.

The goal is preventing fingerprinting from becoming a bottleneck in your timeline.

What If You Have a Criminal History?

Having a criminal record doesn't automatically disqualify you from obtaining a Tennessee insurance license. The Department of Commerce & Insurance reviews each case individually, considering factors such as:

• Nature and severity of the offense
• Time elapsed since the conviction
• Evidence of rehabilitation
• Relevance to insurance industry duties

Minor offenses and old convictions may not prevent licensing. Serious crimes involving dishonesty, fraud, or breach of trust face more scrutiny.

If you have concerns about your background:

• Be completely honest on your application—false statements are grounds for denial
• Prepare documentation showing rehabilitation and good character
• Consider consulting the DCI before applying if you're uncertain about eligibility

Out-of-State or Unable to Visit a Location?

If you're a Tennessee resident who cannot visit an IdentoGO location (due to disability or temporary out-of-state residence), alternative options exist:

Card Scan Service: IdentoGO offers a non-resident card scan service that converts traditional fingerprint cards to electronic records. This involves:

1. Registering online at IdentoGO
2. Having fingerprints taken on an FD-258 fingerprint card by a qualified technician
3. Mailing the card to IdentoGO for processing

This option takes longer than in-person LiveScan and should only be used when necessary.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Rejected Fingerprints

Some individuals have fingerprints that are difficult to capture clearly (due to age, occupation, or skin conditions). If your prints are rejected:

• You'll receive a rejection notice with a TCR number
• Schedule a reprint appointment through IdentoGO
• Reprints are typically free if scheduled promptly

Missed Appointment

If you miss your scheduled appointment:

• You may forfeit your fee if not rescheduled within the two-week window
• Contact IdentoGO at (855) 226-2937 to discuss options
• You may need to re-register and pay again

Name Discrepancies

Ensure the name on your IdentoGO registration matches your exam registration and license application exactly. Discrepancies can cause processing delays.

After Fingerprinting: Next Steps

Once fingerprinting is complete:

1. Keep your receipt as proof of completion
2. Submit your signed Fingerprint Policy and Acknowledgement Form
3. Wait 48 hours after passing your exam, then submit your license application through NIPRLicensing Center State Requirements Tennessee Resident Licensing Individual Nipr.com
4. Your background check results will be matched to your application during processing
