Quick Answer:
Once you're ready to take your Washington insurance licensing exam, scheduling is straightforward through PSI Services, the testing provider contracted by the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. Here's exactly how to schedule your exam and what to expect.
Visit the PSI test registration portal for Washington insurance examsWaoic Test Takers.psiexams.com to create an account. You'll need to provide personal information including your legal name exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID.
Make sure all information is accurate, as discrepancies between your registration and your ID on exam day can prevent you from testing.
Choose the exam corresponding to your desired lines of authority:
Life Insurance - For selling life insurance and annuities
Disability (Health) Insurance - For selling accident and health insurance products
Property Insurance - For selling property coverage
Casualty Insurance - For selling liability and auto insurance
Personal Lines - Combines property and casualty for individual consumers
Combined exams (like Life and Health together, or Property and Casualty together) test both lines in a single sitting. While combined exams are longer, they're often more efficient than taking separate exams if you want multiple lines of authority.
PSI offers two testing options for Washington insurance exams:
In-Person Testing at PSI test centers located throughout Washington. Testing centers in Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma, and other cities offer regular appointment availability. You'll take your exam on a computer at the testing center under proctor supervision.
Remote Online Proctoring allows you to take your exam from home or office using your own computer. Your test session is monitored via webcam and screen sharing. Before choosing remote testing, verify your computer meets PSI's technical requirements using their compatibility check tool.
Both options offer the same exam content and passing requirements. Choose based on your comfort level and circumstances.

Select your preferred date, time, and location (or confirm remote testing). Exam appointments are typically available within a few days, with some locations offering next-day availability.

For in-person testing, arrive at the testing center 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Bring valid government-issued photo identification. No personal items, phones, calculators, watches, food, or drinks are permitted in the testing area.
For remote testing, log into the PSI Bridge platform 30 minutes before your exam time. Ensure your testing environment meets requirements: private room, clean desk, adequate lighting, and stable internet connection. Have your government ID ready to show the proctor via webcam.
Washington insurance exams are multiple choice, delivered on computer. Each exam includes scored questions plus unscored "pretest" questions being evaluated for future use. You won't know which questions are scored, so treat every question seriously.
Time limits vary by exam type but generally provide adequate time for careful candidates. Pace yourself to review all questions before submitting.
You'll receive your pass/fail result immediately upon completing the exam, along with a score report showing your performance by topic area. If you pass, you can proceed to the license application process. If not, the score report helps focus your preparation for a retake.
Passing your exam is a significant accomplishment, but you're not done yet. Your exam score is valid for 180 days. Within that window, you must complete fingerprinting, submit your license application through NIPR, and pay application fees.
Don't wait until the last minute. Starting your application promptly ensures you receive your license while your exam remains valid.
